Mdina, known as the "Silent City," is Malta's ancient capital. This fortified medieval town sits atop a hill in the center of Malta, offering a journey back in time with its narrow streets, baroque architecture, and panoramic views.

    History of Mdina

Founded by the Phoenicians around 700 BCE, Mdina was Malta's capital for over 1,000 years. The Arabs gave it its name (Medina meaning "walled city"). Today, only about 300 people live within its walls, maintaining its peaceful atmosphere.

    Main Gate and Entrance

Enter through the baroque main gate, built in 1724. Notice the inscription "A fossilized and walled city of silence." Cars are restricted, preserving the medieval ambiance.
